Shortly after I began reading I realised this is so much more than a surface level beauty / skin care book! It feels more like a nice mix of inner health (food and exercise) and emotional wellness (self care) with a side of motivation.
The author's philosophy is that there is a deep connection between inner and outer beauty, so it is filled with everything from self care tips to beauty food recipes to plant based skin care concoctions. There is So. Much. Content.
There are lists of foods that are good for your skin and those that are bad and really useful advice about what to look out for when buying food and beauty products - I threw a bottle of sweet chilli sauce in the bin after learning that ingredients are listed on a label in order of concentration (so much sugar)!
It breaks down the overwhelmingly large array of skin care products into understandable chapters, suggesting which are necessary and which aren’t. It even goes in depth into the seasons and how to look after your skin in different climates and this isn’t even scraping the surface.
But my favourite chapter in the whole book would have to be the one titled “Mindful Self-care: a Necessity not a Luxury". I love the line that reads “How you do anything is how you do everything”, a nice little reminder that our food and beauty routines, if rushed, are probably reflection of how we rush through life - something to really reflect on.
A conscious guide to plant-based beauty
The essential guide to detoxing your beauty routine.
Plant-based beauty is part of a growing global movement that is not just about the food we eat but the choices we make when it comes to what we wear and the beauty products we use. We are more aware than ever that our personal actions have an effect both on our own levels of wellness and the health of the world around us.
Plant-Based Beauty is a practical companion to your daily routine, helping you to truly understand the ingredients you are putting on your skin and replacing them with self-care rituals to look forward to.
