The bird of paradise is a flower I never thought I would use in my early days. They reminded me of Australia's 80's attempts at ikebana, and really tacky paintings of flowers in motels.
Now it's a flower I don't think I'd be able to live without (or at least do my job without!) and I truly think it is a very underrated flower.
Here are the reasons why I love Birds of Paradise:
A lot goes in to each flower!
There is so much more to these flowers than meets the eye. To start with, each flower takes up to 1 year to fully develop! And there are so many petals in their pods that can open over several weeks!
They have the most interesting shape
They are a really structural flower, and named as such because they resemble a real bird of paradise!

It surprises me how much I love their colour
Have you ever thought to put orange and blue together? I generally wouldn't to be fair, but for some reason, these colours just work together in a strelitzia flower. And not only that, they really work with other flowers too! They can make an arrangement more tropical, or simply add a really cool pop of colour, that seems to work with any other colour combo!

They just give a really good 90's vibe
And the 90s are back! Not only do they look good with other flowers, they also look good on their own, in any setting! I love to play a small part in making these flowers cool again.
