Floreat's bespoke and very special flower wrapping

by Jane Lampe |

The way we wrap our flowers is very important to us at Floreat! To us, what should be the hero and the focus is not the wrapping but the flowers. Because of this, our wrapping is modest, but still very special.

Another thing that is important to us, is that we aren't adding to landfill with over the top wrapping.

BUT we do want to be different to everyone else.

A few years ago, we devised a bit of a plan for our wrapping, that allows all the flowers to be seen in their glory while wrapped, with all of our packaging being environmentally sustainable.

Our first ingredient is cellophane. It looks like plastic, but it is made out of a plant-based, biodegradable material made from renewable cellulose (usually wood pulp or cotton). Unlike petroleum-based plastics, it breaks down completely without leaving microplastics.

The cellophane has a lovely texture, and you can see all the flowers from all angles when it's wrapped!

Our second ingredient is liberty fabric. About 6 years ago we approached Liberty of London to see if we could use some of their fabric to place around the bottom of our bouquets to hide our "wet wrapping", and also use as a ribbon. They came back with a response I didn't even dream of - that they could work with us to create our own bespoke Liberty print!

Since then we have had 3 of our own Floreat x Liberty prints, and also use some of their other beautiful prints, so we can match our flowers to the right print/colour of the fabric, to create a beautiful curated wrapped bunch!

The beauty of this is that you can keep your liberty print and use it to make something, or tie the ribbon in your hair, or around a present!

And our final ingredient, our cards. For many of our illustrations on our website and stationary, we worked with Amy Wright, a fabulous artist based in Victoria, who used to be a florist herself! She created some beautiful illustrations for us, and they adorn our gift cards.

Another unique way we have of presenting our flowers is with our Floreat x Sally Cooper Vases, which can also be bought with our flowers. Sally makes every vase by hand in her Botany studio, Claypool, so every vase is different and very special. If you choose to have your flowers delivered in one of these special vases, this is something that can be kept long after the flowers have finished blooming.
