This is such a useful introductory book for anyone clueless about plants (like me!) or anyone wanting to delve deeper into the world of plant styling around their home or elsewhere.
So often I get asked by friends which is the right plant for certain random areas of their house, such as the top shelf of their shower, or their bedside table which gets absolutely no light or sun - and I have no idea what to tell them! This book gives those exact answers, and delves deep into considerations I hadn’t even thought about such as humidity levels, how the size of your pot can negatively affect the plant (I can’t believe you can kill a plant just by getting the pot size centimetres wrong?!) and even what/when to feed it.
It also gives ideas for shapes and sizes to use in different corners or on shelves next to other objects, and if you really want to get into styling, there are chapters on creating different looks with plants, like “boho” or “minimalist” or “contemporary”.
In terms of information on specific plants, it chooses a handful of popular ones for the intermittent “plant profile” and gives tips on watering, light and styling. There's also plant index at the back with care instructions for hundreds of different plants. My favourite bit though is the tips about what to do with your plants when you go away on holidays (and it doesn’t involve asking your friends to come over and water them!)
So basically, this book has everything you could possibly want to know to introduce you to the plant world. I am now off to buy myself a Chinese money plant as I have just learned its easily harvested and can be shared among friends. Enjoy!
