This time of the year is just gorgeous for flowers. I just love the colours. They really remind me of the Australian Summer, having spend the last 2 months fading with the sun, they are softer hues, almost verging into autumnal colours, but still with a sense of summer fun, if you know what I mean!
Here are a few of my favourites, that we are using a lot of at the moment in our arrangements and bouquets.
1. Roses
Meaning - Love
Beautiful locally grown roses are really in their element at the moment, which really came handy for Valentine's Day last week!!
My favourite varieties are princess, which are a stunning musk pink colour, honey dijon (no description needed?), Evelyn, which is a stunning, soft peach David Austin variety, and little old Cecile brunners, which are cute little button sized pink garden roses. I also love soft buttery yellow roses which add a bit of fun to our bouquets.
But I also love every other colour, so I don't know why I narrow it down :)
Our beautiful locally grown roses have so much character, and the most amazing scent. And every rose has a different scent, so in line with their colour. Nature is amazing isn't it?

2. Belladonna lilies
Meaning: Beautiful lady
Belladonna lilies, or "Amaryllis Belladonna", OR naked lady lilies are a favourite of mine for February. They come in gorgeous musk pink, or larger white ones with yellow centres, they add a bit of a tropical vibe to our bouquets.
3. Paniculata
Meaning: Gratitude, grace and beauty
Paniculata is part of the hydrangea family. It comes in a creamy white, and as it ages, it takes on a raspberry hue. Rather than the round head of hydrangea, it has a distinct conical head.
4. Zinnias
Meaning - friendship, endurance, daily remembrance, goodness, and lasting affection
Zinnias come in the most special colours - I particularly love the soft pinks and peaches, but the lime greens and other bright colours are also gorgeous! The ones in this photo are grown by the lovely @tillawinstonflowers
5. Scabiosa
Meaning - pure love, purity and peace
Scabiosa is a very pretty flower, with a very unfortunate name. Coming in white, pale pink, raspberry, Burgundy, and mauve, they are a real english "rustic style" flower, cute as a button, and a lovely addition to many of our bouquets.
My favourite colour is the raspberry, which I think goes really well with everything!

6. Dahlias
Meaning - eternal love and commitment
Dahlias are around now until Mother's Day. They come in beautiful colours, including bright pinks and apricots, white, Burgundy, and my favourite, cafe au lait, and also different sizes, from the cute little pompom variety, to some that are as big as a plate!
Dahlias can last about a week if kept in the right spot.
7. Cosmos
Meaning - order and harmony
Coming in white and a beautiful candy pink colour, with yellow centres, cosmos are often used to symbolize order and harmony, due largely to the flower's harmonious petals.
Another really "English" style flower, in particular, the different pinks in the pink cosmos can be quite unique and lovely.
8. Banksia Speciosa
Meaning - Showy
Banksia speciosa is one of our favourite banksias! Masculine and strong, it looks great in our corporate arrangements, but also in our native and eclectic bouquets, and I love it's soft colour and zigzag leaves.
While not defined in the Victorian Language of Flowers, it's latin name means "showy", and it certainly is the star of the show!
9. Amaranthus
Amaranthus comes in a fresh lime green, deep red, or orange. It adds a beautiful texture to arrangements and bouquets.
10. Flowering gum
Flowering gum comes in beautiful soft pink, bright red, and more rarely, white. Its a beautiful Australian native in full bloom right now, and everyone loves it!
