Wildflower walks around Australia

by Jane Lampe |

We are so lucky in Australia to have some beautiful walks on our doorstep! There's nothing better than getting out into nature and enjoying the quiet and peace, but what can make it even better, is to be surrounded by beautiful flowers!

I love venturing out beyond Sydney to see what beauty our country has to offer, but I have only just scratched the surface of places to go. What I love about what I've seen so far, is the diverse flora that you see in different parts of our country.

Here are a few places I've been, and some that are on my bucket list.

NSW Snowy Mountains

A beautiful place to go in summer when the snow has melted, and the flowers and trees are the feature. Especially good to go to if you're looking to escape the summer heat. I recently did the Charlotte Pass - Perisher Walk, where I loved seeing all the snow gums, and little alpine daisies and native heather.

Kakadu

At the other end of the country, the flowers and foliages in Kakadu have a distinctively tropical feel, but still so Aussie. So different to the things we see in NSW.

There are so many amazing walks to do around Kakadu, leading up to beautiful lookouts, around gorgeous billabongs, and seeing amazing rock art.

While you're there, you'll see Turkey bush, kakadu plum, water lilies and kapok bush.

Royal National Park, Sydney

For Sydney-siders, the Royal National Park is on our doorstep. Spring is a great time to experience the beautiful walks in RNP, and there you'll see so many beautiful flowers most familiar to us, including boronia, gymea lilies, banksias, flannel flowers, wattles, and grevillia.

One of my favourite walks near the coast is Bundeena Drive to Little Marley Beach which leads through heath, past fresh water pools and creeks, and on to scenic beach views in Royal National Park.

Coalseam Conservation Park, Western Australia

The wildflower parks in Western Australia are definitely on my bucket list, and the Coalseam Conservation Park  looks like my cup of tea.

Spring is the best time to visit, with blankets of wildflowers, including everlasting daisies, blooming en masse.
