Well this Monthly Market guide is a combo of February and March, simply because I forgot February, sorry!
Here are a few of the beautiful seasonal flowers we are using a lot of at the moment.
1. Dutch Iris
Meaning - Hope, wisdom, trust and valour
Dutch iris are a new favourite of mine - they are an old fashioned bloom, but I find the structure so beautiful! They are tight when you first get them, and when the open they hold for days!
2. Autumn Hydrangea
Meaning - Gratitude, Grace and Beauty
Our main hydrangea supplier, Sarina, went away for all of January, so she didn't pick any hydrangea for a month! When she got back, all her beautiful hydrangea was aged, and so beautiful, and holds so well! We can't get enough of it at the moment!
3. Sedum
Meaning: Peace and tranquility
Sedum has been around for a month or so, and is starting to mature and turn a beautiful shade of rose pink. It's strong, lasts well, and even dries out! Just keep changing the water because the stems can get a bit smelly and slimy.
4. Freesias
Meaning - friendship, trust, thoughtfulness and innocence
Freesias are gorgeous, fragrant, and elegant. They come in a mix of gorgeous creamy white, mauve, yellow, and even red that turn gold with age!! They are long lasting too - at least a week!!
5. Gloriosa
Meaning - passion, proud, honor and glory, but can also represent purity and beauty
Otherwise known as "flame lily", gloriosa is a bright, tropical style flower, long lasting, and great for unique style arrangements and bouquets.
6. Lisianthus
Meaning - gratefulness and charisma
Lisis come in gorgeous white, mauve, soft yellow, peachy pink, and other shades of pink, and even two-tone. They are single, double, and even frill. They are very pretty and frilly and a beautiful in feminine style bouquets.
Meaning gratefullness, they are a fitting flower for a thank you bouquet.
7. Roses
Meaning - Love
Beautiful roses are still looking great right now!!
My favourite varieties are princess, which are a stunning musk pink colour, honey dijon (no description needed?), Evelyn, which is a stunning, soft peach David Austin variety, and little old Cecile brunners, which are cute little button sized pink garden roses. I also love soft buttery yellow roses which add a bit of fun to our bouquets.
But I also love every other colour, so I don't know why I narrow it down :)
Our beautiful locally grown roses have so much character, and the most amazing scent. And every rose has a different scent, so in line with their colour. Nature is amazing isn't it?

8. Banksia Speciosa
Meaning - Showy
Banksia speciosa is one of our favourite banksias! Masculine and strong, it looks great in our corporate arrangements, but also in our native and eclectic bouquets, and I love it's soft colour and zigzag leaves.
While not defined in the Victorian Language of Flowers, it's latin name means "showy", and it certainly is the star of the show!
9. Amaranthus
Amaranthus comes in a fresh lime green, deep red, or orange. It adds a beautiful texture to arrangements and bouquets.
10. Belladonna lilies
Meaning: Beautiful lady
Belladonna lilies, or "Amaryllis Belladonna", OR naked lady lilies are a favourite of mine for February. They come in gorgeous musk pink, or larger white ones with yellow centres, they add a bit of a tropical vibe to our bouquets.
11. Zinnias
Meaning - friendship, endurance, daily remembrance, goodness, and lasting affection
Zinnias come in the most special colours - I particularly love the soft pinks and peaches, but the lime greens and other bright colours are also gorgeous! The ones in this photo are grown by the lovely @tillawinstonflowers
12. Dahlias
Meaning - eternal love and commitment
Dahlias are around now until Mother's Day. They come in beautiful colours, including bright pinks and apricots, white, Burgundy, and my favourite, cafe au lait, and also different sizes, from the cute little pompom variety, to some that are as big as a plate!
Dahlias can last about a week if kept in the right spot.
12. Cosmos
Meaning - order and harmony
Coming in white and a beautiful candy pink colour, with yellow centres, cosmos are often used to symbolize order and harmony, due largely to the flower's harmonious petals.
Another really "English" style flower, in particular, the different pinks in the pink cosmos can be quite unique and lovely.
